Car cleaning advice

  • question_answerI have a stain from bird droppings on my car. Can you suggest a product that might?

Unfortunately no. If the stain is so deep in to the paintwork that T-Cut won't remove it then it's there for the life of paint.

  • question_answerWhat's the difference between wax and a polish?

Polishing your car almost acts like a moisturizer for your paintwork, enriching the lustre, colour and depth. Waxing your vehicle will still give the paintwork a lovely shine, but mainly acts as a protective layer by sealing your paintwork either with polymers or carnauba contained in the wax. For your used car we might use Autoglym's wax based polish (Radiant Wax Polish) and for almost new cars we favour Autoglym's hard wearing wax (Hard Wax).

  • question_answerI've got scuff marks on my plastic windows on my caravan / convertible. Can you suggest a product to remove them?

No. Unfortunately once this type of plastic has become "etched" there is nothing you can do about the appearance.

  • question_answerWhy should I wax my vehicle?

Waxing your vehicle helps to prevent airborne contaminants from settling on the paint and starting a chemical reaction. Waxing also diffuses UV rays and infrared radiation from the sun, thereby preventing both from being absorbed into the paint pigments. Without the wax, the paintwork would end up dull and oxidized. When a vehicle has been waxed, it will actually have a lower paint surface temperature!

  • question_answerWhy shouldn't I use an automatic car wash or supermarket car wash?

Even the most effective and advanced car wash will damage your car. They use detergents and chemicals which are harmful to the paintwork. It is likely they will accelerate the paintwork's ageing process and contribute to fading and oxidation. These overly strong chemicals are used to compensate for the inefficiency of the giant rollers. In addition to this, the rollers create thousands of tiny scratches in swirling patterns on your bodywork. The consequences of regular visits to an automatic car wash will certainly be realized when it comes to selling your car. We can undo some of the damage to your vehicle by machine polishing the paint work and finishing with a coat of hard wearing wax.

Supermarket car washes are normally cheap but use untrained staff and cheap products that don’t last for long and in some cases could harm your vehicle. Stay well away!

  • question_answerWhich is the best Car Wax in the market?

There are a range of car waxes at different prices in the market as we all know. These may be of a paste or a liquid form. Generally a decent wax will have Carnauba wax in which really helps to give a good shine and protection. It is thought that Autoglym's HD Wax has about 40% content in it. HD Wax has been a flagship product of Autoglym's since it was launched and has received excellent reviews. Autosmart provides us with Carnauba gold 400ml which is nicely priced at around £10. Gives a nice finish but some people find its not the easiest to apply. Mirror Glaze 16, priced around £16 is highly recommended. Easy to apply gives a nice finish and stays on the car for a long time! There are other waxes in the market offered by companies such as Swiss Vax, Poor Boys, Dodo Juice but for the reviews and feed back we receive on here we would always recommend Autoglym's High Definition Wax! For price finish and application it can't be beaten!
